A serious obstacle to obtaining long-term recovery is spending time in an environment that is not pro-recovery. Along with many of our programs, Cornerstone provides licensed recovery homes to help combat this. Our sober living is drug and alcohol-free and you will become part of a community whose focus is recovery and abstinence.

What is a Sober Living House?

A sober living house refers to any place of residence that bridges the inpatient recovery experience with the “real world.” They can also be referred to as, sober houses, recovery homes, rehab housing, transitional housing, and halfway houses.

A sober living house gives recovering addicts the opportunity to take the hard work and learning they’ve done in inpatient recovery and apply it to real-life situations. Further, they provide a community of other people dedicated to being drug and alcohol-free. Adjusting back to daily life, facing daily challenges, can be tough and sober houses can help with that transition.

Location Of Our Recovery Homes & Why It Matters

The location of our sober houses in Orange County provide some unique advantages that can ultimately benefit long-term recovery. Part of transitioning to a sober living lifestyle is learning to be and keep active while continuing your recovery work. Being active not only helps people move past their addictions but also creates fulfilling experiences.

Our sober living homes are only minutes away from several Southern California activities and landmarks, including Dinseyland, the Performing Arts Centre, the beach in the summer and less than hour away from the mountain ski resorts in the winter. We understand that recovery is hard work, but that doesn’t mean that sober living should be devoid of fun and relaxation – in fact, those can help reduce the risk of relapsing.

What Can I Expect from Cornerstone’s Sober Living Homes?

Cornerstone’s licensed recovery homes are for adults aged 18 and over. There are six residents in each home, each residence has a live-in manager that can address any housing issues as they arise. You will have the freedom to come and go as you choose, and we encourage client independence. We see Cornerstone sober living as an opportunity to further the treatment process in a productive environment, it can offer a safe and sober living environment while you attend our Extended Care Program, Day Treatment (PHP) or our Intensive Outpatient Treatment program.

Why is a recovery home being licensed important to my recovery?

The state of California’s Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) has sole authority over the licensing for recovery homes. Licensing is required for any 24-hour residential nonmedical services provided to eligible adults who are recovering from problems related to alcohol or other drug misuse or abuse. This helps protect recovering addicts by mandating certain standards of care are met.

In order to get licensed, a recovery home must submit the Initial Treatment Provider Application (DHCS 6002) and all supporting documentation. Also, if substantial changes to the house occur the Supplemental Application Request for Additional Services (DHCS 5255) must be submitted and approved. If you’re looking into a drug or alcohol recovery program, it’s vital that the recovery home that is part of your treatment is licensed to ensure you have the best chance at success.

What Would be Expected of Me?

Early recovery, as we know, is a precarious time. Sober living with Cornerstone could be the perfect platform from which a life free of drugs and alcohol can begin. All we ask of you is that you remain respectful to other residents and that you remain clean and sober.

How Long Can I Stay for?

We believe that recovery should never be rushed, we have seen people return to living with families and loved ones far too early. It is naive to think that you can move back to towns and cities where you used to drink or use, and expect everything to be ok. It’s important to remember that relapse can be fatal. At Cornerstone we understand the difficulties that early recovery brings, therefore your stay within one of our licensed recovery homes ends when you are ready. We have clients that have left after a few months, and others that have stayed with us for a few years.

Will it Improve My Chances in Recovery?

The chances of relapse are greatly reduced by staying in a licensed recovery home. You will be surrounded by other people on the road to recovery, where you will be supported through problems and stresses with other peers who will understand what you are going through and be able to guide you. Healthy coping strategies can be developed without the need for substances. Our sober living provides an environment in which you can practice the tools for long-term recovery safely. It is here where real life begins.

It is the truly caring staff that makes Cornerstone the best rehab I have been to. The best part was finally getting my depression medications right, after many others tried for 2 years.
