Cornerstone of Southern California, Celebrating 40 Years

A serious obstacle to individuals in long-term recovery is spending time in an environment that is not pro-recovery. Along with many of our programs, Cornerstone provides licensed recovery homes to benefit individuals looking for a living environment that is supportive of their recovery goals. Our sober living is drug and alcohol-free and you will become part of a community whose focus is on recovery and abstinence. If you have questions or need support, other people with experience going through similar circumstances can provide support in a communal living environment that fosters a healthy lifestyle.

What is a Sober Living House?

A sober living house refers to any place of residence that bridges the inpatient recovery experience with the “real world”, helping to transition clients while maintaining sobriety. They can also be referred to as, sober houses, recovery homes, rehab housing, transitional housing, and halfway houses.

Our Orange County sober living homes provide an opportunity for patients in addiction recovery to take the hard work and learning they’ve done in inpatient rehabilitation and apply it to real-life situations. Furthermore, they provide a community of other people dedicated to being drug and alcohol-free. Adjusting back to daily life or facing daily challenges can be tough and sober houses can help with that transition.

Licensed Recovery Homes in Orange County, California

The state of California’s Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) has sole authority over the licensing of recovery homes. Licensing is required for any 24-hour residential nonmedical services provided to eligible adults who are recovering from problems related to alcohol or other drug misuse or abuse. This helps protect recovering addicts by mandating certain standards of care are met.

In order to get licensed, a recovery home must submit the Initial Treatment Provider Application (DHCS 6002) and all supporting documentation. Also, if substantial changes to the house occur the Supplemental Application Request for Additional Services (DHCS 5255) must be submitted and approved. If you’re looking into a drug or alcohol recovery program, it’s vital that the recovery home that is part of your treatment is licensed to ensure you have the best chance at success.

What Would be Expected of Me?

Early recovery, as we know, is a precarious time. Sober living with Cornerstone could be the perfect platform from which a life free of drugs and alcohol can begin. All we ask of you is that you remain respectful to other residents and that you remain clean and sober.

Can I Bring My Pet or Support Animal?

Support animals or pets may attend sober living with our clients on a case-to-case basis. Oftentimes, furry friends may help to support recovery, however they may not contribute to a positive sober living environment for all guests, especially individuals with allergies or when animals misbehave. With this mind, several considerations need assessment prior to approval of bringing a pet or support animal to the sober living home. Clients should check with house managers and not assume they can bring a pet.

All sorts of people get treatment at Cornerstone, including ones with support animals and pets

How Long Can I Stay?

We believe that recovery should never be rushed, we have seen people return to living with families and loved ones far too early. It is naive to think that you can move back to towns and cities where you used to drink or use, and expect everything to be ok. It’s important to remember that relapse can be fatal. At Cornerstone, we understand the difficulties that early recovery brings, therefore your stay within one of our California sober living homes ends when you are ready. We have clients that have left after a few months, and others that have stayed with us for a few years.
